Kenana Knitters was set up in 1998 to help rural women in Njoro, Kenya. The group buys homespun wool produced locally, then knits it into toys and other items. They believe in using environmentally friendly and ecologically sustainable materials and processes to support their farming communities in Africa. Money earned by the Kenana Knitters goes directly to the women who are able to improve their quality of life for themselves and their children. The wool comes naturally in cream, browns and greys and part of the charm of the items is the many different shades, the same as those of the multi-coloured flocks of local sheep! Each toy has been handmade and no two look exactly the same. Each soft toy comes with information about the project and is even signed by the woman who made it. They have the CE mark and are suitable from birth with supervision (there are some woollen tassles on them which can be removed). All the items are fully washable and easy to care for and will not be something every single child is modelling this season!

Tish Tash Toys offers you the option to choose beautiful unique crafted toys from a fair trade, environmentally friendly project. You can help rural women in Kenya find a much needed income by supporting their wonderful spinning and knitting skills.

Fantastic! A toy that actually supports the work of the Kenyan women and rewards them with the income to improve their quality of life. Superb!! - Tracie - Banbury
I think its fantastic that tish tash toys is supporting the work of this country - you must get one NOW!! - Alison - Cambs
This little leopard will have very individual spots, in fact it will not be the same as any other, as it has been hand knitted by a group of remarkable rural lady’s in Kenya. Hand knitted toys were a major part of my childhood and in my view really can’t be beaten, to have a toy that someone has been lovingly made and carefully knitted, is an honour. Each has an individual tag with the knitters name written on it. - Jo - Hampshire
With everyone trying to do their bit for the world these Kenana toys that the Kenyan women knit show us we can all do our bit. Made from ecologically sustainable materials these long lasting toys are fully machine washable. No two are alike and each one comes with a small information pack telling you who made this toy and all about the project in Kenya. - natasha Leonard - bury St Edmunds, Suffolk
