Kenana Knitters was set up in 1998 to help rural women in Njoro, Kenya. The group buys homespun wool produced locally, then knits it into toys and other items. They believe in using environmentally friendly and ecologically sustainable materials and processes to support their farming communities in Africa. Money earned by the Kenana Knitters goes directly to the women who are able to improve their quality of life for themselves and their children.
The wool comes naturally in cream, browns and greys and part of the charm of the items is the many different shades, the same as those of the multi-coloured flocks of local sheep! Each toy has been handmade and no two look exactly the same. Each soft toy comes with information about the project and is even signed by the woman who made it. They have the CE mark and are suitable from birth with supervision (there are some woollen tassles on them which can be removed). All the items are fully washable and easy to care for and will not be something every single child is modelling this season!
Tish Tash Toys offers you the option to choose beautiful unique crafted toys from a fair trade, environmentally friendly project. You can help rural women in Kenya find a much needed income by supporting their wonderful spinning and knitting skills.

| My husband loves knitted toys and still has the one his nana made for him almost forty years ago. These hand knitted toys made in kenya from local produce will put a smile on the face of any child receiving one. Every one is different, machine washable and helping to support the community from where it was made. Both my children talk about them when they see the pictures and always ask for one. - Natasha Leonard - Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk |
